Yay, great submission, I love it! It looks, well, organic and artificial at the same time, fresh and colourful. It scales pretty well and subtly reminds of X2. It could probably be sexy if animated. The only thing I'm not sure about is the 2, maybe the shape, or the fact that it's red like the ball it surrounds. Apart from these small details, it looks great!
Cool concept, but I think it's a bit out there. The 2 is certainly a stretch, as theefer pointed out. The red, elongated 2 remind me of communist Russia and the sickle & hammer. But beyond that, it makes me think of the p orbital of an atom. :P Out of the evolution picture, I'd pick the X-shaped one without the 2 (4th from the left, top row) not because it looks like an X, but because it looks like all those spheres are connected to one point, which is analogous to the nature of XMMS2. Of course, the X shape serves a dual purpose.
