Due to some miscommunication (or just to little caffeine on my part) I didn't understand that Juri wanted Retrosound #1 and #2 as one submission. So here is another try....

I like it! Retro style is always nice! :)
There is something with the perspective of the small version that I really can't put my finger on, and I can't decide if it annoys me or I like it either.
(btw, the aliasing in the 150px version makes the lines look non straight)
Not sure I like the big difference between small and large versions. I think if there needs to be a different version for small (icon) display it should only remove/simplify things - not change anything.
I really like the fact that it's sharp and good colors. I agree with anders that there is something about the aspect in the smaller one.
Wonder what other color combinations that also could work?
I'm not too keen on the small one, the perspective issues does bug me, and I agree with anders that I'm not sure i like the big difference. I really love the look of the big one though. Nice color contrast, and the lines inside the rounded area give it a lot of ``burst.''
Thanks for the comments folks. Tha perspective issue is due to the fact that the mms has simply been left away, which makes the "2" a little more tilted away/backwards than the X.
That fact that there is such a big difference (not that big if you ask me) is that the squared one is really meant as a logo for menu items while I think it's nicer to have a non-square version for things such as banners, websites and the about dialog.
I'll see if I find the time to refine both of them a bit.
Tobias, you could change the .svg to see other colour combinations :) I for one will try out some more colors, suggestions welcome.
Cheers
I like the colours, but I seem to associate the font of the larger designs with candy, possibly because of the swirly lines.
I think my association of the background is with manga.
Probably this all is because I'm missing the effect of it being retro, as I'm too young for that...
In the smallest version the 2 seems to be a bit stretched.
Liked it much during the first attempt at our logo contest, and it's still pretty. By some reason the smaller image gets its perspective correct if you imagine the X being 3D, cubeisch.. so a line in the middle of both lines that together creates the X. But yeah, it would be nice if it could be fixed to look great without imagination. ;)
Pretty nice... Can you explain why you choose this style ? For me it's a cartoon -like style... And "XMMS2" seems to be an explosion (Bang-Crash... some sound !). I like it. (sorry for my english)
@ sombrerrance: No particular reason for choosing this style. Thought it would look fresh and dynamic.
In addition to that, I think that it contrasts with other more current logo styles, because I think that recent graphics are very cliché-ridden, eg. all imitate the shiny apple effect, use boring fonts, fancy colors, and so on.
Plus, the thing I like about the xmms2 project is that it is first of all gui independant, so the logo shouldn't look like from another KDE application or something like that. I'm currently more or less forced to use amarok, and while it's a great app, I totally dislike the style and feel of it.
So the short explanation is, that I thought it might look cool.
Greets
I like the resto look, sort of dinner'ish. There is something up with the balance of the large logo. It seems a bit heavy on the left with a hole on the lower right.
A suggestion would be to keep the text with the perspective but drop the 2. It seems to get a bit lost in the distance. Then add it back in, no perspective, on the lower right to anchor and give the text something to sweep over.
Nice work.
I like the dynamic look of it a lot! My favourite logo so far. The retro look might arguable be too, well, retro, but it has a clear style, mood and feeling. It's one of the few logos that do not suffer from displaying "XMMS2" (I'd like to see more variety there..). Clean color and shape. Good job!
