The smaller designs, without the "XMMS2", seem to resemble a donut or a wheel to me.

Looks too much like a jet engine.

It's pretty clear from the comments above that I'm not alone in misinterpreting the speaker shape. But I'm guessing from the way you combined the MM you were trying to make it look like a cross-section of a speaker cone and voice coil? IMHO, it would be best to go with that motif. I'm envisioning a 3-D view of the XMMS2 with some perspective on it and the back half of a speaker sticking out from the MM, but you're the artist.
Just keep in mind you're making a logotype. This means you want to create something simple and memorable so that when someone sees it, they immediately think, "Oh, that means XMMS2!" Speakers have been done to death in the audio player world, so unless you can come up with some very different view of a speaker (say the cross-sectional MM view?) you need to be creative. Remember also that it's about associating the logo with the software and that doesn't necessarily mean they have anything to do with one another. Case and point: the linux logo is a penguin!

Yeah I think it's hard to see it's a speaker too. Looks a bit like a nipple to me :P

Otherwise the font of the text is pretty neat.
